Jim Hall & Joe Lovano Grand Slam - Live in Nervi '96







"Grand Slam" was a
particular project led
by J.Hall and J.Lovano
during the second half
of the nineties that left
only one official recording :
"Live at the Regattabar"
for Telarc.
This is the first version
of the group, in a second
time George Mraz and
Lewis Nash took the place
of Scott Colley and Yoron
Israel.

I wonder how history will view Lovano. I wouldn't be surprised if we're underestimating his influence even now, and we come to see him as singular a talent as Konitz or Joe Henderson. But the man sure has made a lot of wonderful — and disparate — music. The record with Mraz and Lewis is terrific, too. As always, thank you for this.

Thank you for this very interesting concert! I'm always amazed at Lovano's wealth of musical ideas. And it's really marvelous how Hall's quiet style on guitar can work so well with the powerful sounds of people like Lovano and Rollins.
